Handmade Soap FAQ – General Questions
What is handmade soap?
Handmade soap is crafted in small batches using natural oils, butters, and lye through traditional methods like cold or hot process (we use cold process). Unlike commercial soaps, ours retain glycerin, a natural humectant that helps keep skin hydrated.
I’ve been told not to use soap on dry skin – are your soaps different?
Yes. Commercial soaps can be harsh and stripping as the glycerin is removed. Our soap formula retains the glycerin, a natural humectant which attracts moisture to the skin. So our soaps are much gentler, with moisturising ingredients, such as shea butter, that help support your skin barrier rather than disrupt it.
Will your soap leave my skin feeling tight?”
Most people find the opposite – skin feels clean but soft and comfortable, not tight or dry. Soap is skincare, so if you use the right soap you won’t need additional products to moisturise.
Is your soap suitable for sensitive or eczema-prone skin?
Our soaps are made with gentle ingredients often well-tolerated by sensitive skin. However, if you have a diagnosed skin condition, it’s always best to patch test first. We do sell unscented, and exfoliating soap, which may suit your skin better than a fragranced soap.
Does it go mushy quickly?
Like any natural soap, it will last much longer if kept dry between uses. Using a soap dish that drains well makes a noticeable difference.
Why is it more expensive than commercial soap?
Our soaps are made with skin-supporting ingredients like goat’s milk and shea butter, rather than basic detergents. A longer-lasting bar and less need for additional products can also help balance the cost.
Why choose handmade soap over commercial brands?
- No harsh detergents or synthetic additives
- Rich in skin-loving ingredients like shea butter and essential oils
- Vegan, cruelty-free, and eco-conscious
- Specific formulas for different skin types

Usage & Care
How long does a bar of soap last?
Typically 3–4 weeks with daily use.
To extend its life:
- Keep it dry between uses
- Use a draining soap dish or a sisal soap saver bag
- Avoid leaving it in standing water
Can I use your soap on my face?
Yes, all our bars are gentle enough for facial use.
Skin Types + Sensitivities
Do you offer soaps for sensitive skin?
Absolutely. We recommend our unscented bars such as our Oatmeal, Coconut Milk or Turmeric bars.
Are your soaps suitable for children?
Yes, from age 3 and older.
Orders + Customization
Can I request custom scents or packaging?
Not at the moment. Due to UK laws every soap has to have an assessment from a chemist to prove that they are safe to use. So we cannot customise our soaps unless we pay for a specific assessment for every new soap. This cost (and time for the assessment to take place) means we do not offer custom scents.
Do you offer subscription boxes?
We do! Monthly soap subscriptions are available with seasonal scents. Perfect for gifting or treating yourself.
Sustainability + Ethics
Is your packaging eco-friendly?
Yes. We use recyclable, compostable, or reusable materials wherever possible. Our commitment to sustainability extends from ingredients to delivery.
Where are your soaps made?
We make every bar by hand in the heart of the National Forest, Leicestershire, UK.
